The brothers are in San Francisco to investigate several mauling deaths that coincided with the lunar cycle, the handiwork of a werewolf. (Did you notice that the coroner was Stargate SG-1’s Dr. Janet Fraiser…Yeah SG-1!). Their initial suspect is the stalker ex-boyfriend of a woman who worked for the last victim. When that boyfriend is attacked and Dean interrupts the scene, they find out that Madison herself, is the werewolf. However, Sam has fallen for her and wants to save her. He convinces Dean that they should try to cure her of the lycanthropy by killing the werewolf who originally turned her. When this does not work, Madison, now realizing that she is a monster, asks Sam to shoot her himself. Sam, after much angst, complies.

Praises: This was one of the better episodes of this season. It had almost everything that us fan girls adore about Supernatural and more! There were jokes, lots of brotherly moments, angst galore, and we finally got to see some hot, naked sex. Damn, Jared has been working out! What awesome pecs he has. The shout out to Plastic!Winchester Theater was hysterical…the boys playing rock-paper-scissors and Sam watching the soaps. I loved it! I guess that Sam’s lovemaking scene means that plastic!Sam can’t be used as a sacrificial virgin anymore.
Too bad. But I digress. The best part of this episode was it’s final scene. It was stark and emotionally powerful, with the dramatic impact of In My Time Of Dying and Crossroad Blues. Though I was not convinced that Madison was all that self sacrificing, both J’s performances pulled me completely into the story and I felt myself aching for Sam. And what a final shot, literally. Dean’s face was…wow, just wow!

Nags: What Dean, no bitch quips? How could you resist? In fact, you wouldn’t have. Did that get cut from the show? It’s a glaring omission. Poor job on the special effects in this episode as well. While the claw marks in the walls and the ground-level camera angles were a nice touch, the werewolves themselves were just plain pathetic. They didn’t look even a little wolf-like. I did like the eye color though. A scarier impact would have been to see those eyes in a long nosed, fur covered face. Anyone who has been stared down by a Siberian husky knows how scary the light blue, pin-pupiled wolf eyes are. And what was with the sound effects? Grrr’s? That’s not scary. My dog does a scarier growl than that. These werewolves looked and sounded like furless cats, not wolves. Fortunately, these effects were a relatively small part of the show and did not ruin it too badly.
