When an old prison cell block is reopened and several people die, Sam and Dean risk their freedom and their lives to help Deacon, an old marine buddy of their Dad’s. They arrange to be arrested in Arkansas so they would be sent to the haunted detention center. When the FBI shows up and threaten extradition, they are forced to work quickly. When Dean barely survives an encounter with the ghost, they learn that it is not the serial killer, Mark Moody, as they first thought, but a prison nurse from the 70’s. Dean persuades their lawyer, a woman of course, to help by finding out how the nurse died and where she is buried. Then the brothers escape from jail with the help of Deacon, who was the prison warden. With the FBI on their trail, they dig up the nurse’s body and burn it just in time to stop it from killing Deacon. In the meantime, the FBI is misdirected to the wrong cemetery by their crafty lawyer. -
Praises: John Shiban has hit another one out of the ballpark with this script! This man writes some of the best Supernatural episodes. I was reminded once again why I love this show. Dean was snarky, tough, and utterly devoted to his dad’s legacy. Sam was the voice of reason, trying to rein in his brother, yet loyally following him into the heart of danger. God, how I love those two. It was funny. It was heartbreaking. It was Supernatural. There were tense moments; there were some scary moments; there was good classic rock; and there was even a real surprise or two. It was interesting to see how Dean seemed to have no problem adapting to prison life. Sam was completely out of his element and so unhappy about it, that it was very funny. JP did an excellent job of portraying this. I also really liked the character Deacon, played by Garwin Sanford. He was completely believable as a hard and cruel prison warden. Then, when he did a 180, he was completely believable as an affectionate uncle figure. He even gave the boys a hug (awww) and there was good chemistry between him and Dean. I am glad he wasn’t killed off. I hope he returns in a future episode.

Nags: While it was interesting to watch Sam crawl through vents, it was also freaking unbelievable. Jared is such a huge guy that those had to be some big-ass vents. Wanna bet that in reality that he couldn’t get those huge shoulders through a real vent opening? I wonder if Sam is supposed be double-jointed like Harry Houdini was thought to be? Now that would make things more interesting. It’d be cool to see him escape from handcuffs.

My Rating: Very good episode. 4 out of 5 stars.
