  • Praises: I absolutely loved this episode. Hands down, it was the best episode of season 3 so far. It had all the elements that make Supernatural a great show. It had suspense, it was scary, there was lots of fighting, great brotherly moments, and some Dean snarkisms. There weren’t any funny moments to speak of, but since that’s been overdone in the last few episodes, it is not missed. Gordon is as badass and as scary as ever. Sterling K. Brown was superb. He makes Gordon such a dynamic, believable character that I get completely engrossed watching him. Turning Gordon into what he hated the most, a vampire, was almost too cruel. And the way Sam killed him…yikes! I never thought I’d ever see Sam kill someone slowly, but he did it. I am actually a little sad that Gordon is no more. Like Meg from season one, he was such a good villain that fans like myself will remember him fondly. This episode’s piece de resistance, though, was it’s final scene. Dean’s words about Sam inheriting the impala and Sam’s accepting the responsibility of caring for it…felt so sad, so final…so heart-wrenching. I take my hat off to the writer of this one…only on Supernatural could there be such a tender moment between two brothers with absolutely no hugs or touching at all.

  • Nags: Where was the classic rock music? Kripke, you said that you wanted classic rock to be a part of the show. This season seems to be the exception! Also, WTF was with all the vampire angst? I know there was supposed to be an analogy to Dean somewhere in there…but using such an unsympathetic character as a drug-dealing vampire…it just didn’t work. And did the boys behead the vampire or not? It wasn’t shown and I missed it, if it was said. Another problem with this episode was…yes, you guessed it…Bella. She was entirely forgettable and when her brief scenes were over, that’s exactly what I did. Though she did pretty well in the comedy-filled episodes, in this more serious, dramatic show, she seemed completely out of place. Maybe it’s that hoity-toity British accent that made her fit poorly into Supernatural’s dark, gritty vision of America. Her scenes did not flow well with the rest of this episode and felt more like they were put in after-the-fact to give her a role. [Hey, Kripke, I have a suggestion for you: how about making Bella’s accent turn out to be completely faked…and give miss silk sheets a dirt poor, white trash background…and make her real name “Stella”, while you’re at it…that would make her much more interesting and fit better.] Anyway, these are relatively small faults in otherwise great episode. I have to say that this was a nice way to end the first sequence of new episodes for season 3. I am now more eagerly looking forward to seeing more new episodes after the holiday hiatus.

  • My Rating: excellent episode. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

RIGHT ON!!!!! The boys are back!!! Loved this episode!! Reminds me why I love..love..love this show! It had its “feel” back. Sera knows what we want and gives it to us. Love to hate Gorddie. Now all of his followers are wasted, let’s get on with the drivin..music and killin demons!! We know Dean will be alright, they’ve both died and come back, can’t make me cry again!ha! KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB Hellioness!!!

Thanks for reading my review. Love your feedback. You know the show well and it shows. Totally agree about getting back to the basics that made this show great.
Stock up on those tissues now. Crying is inevitable. It’s already beginning…the tension, the buildup to Dean’s inevitable demise. Kripke knows that when that time comes, the viewer count is going to go through the roof. He’s gonna milk it for all it’s worth. This is pure speculation, but if the writers strike doesn’t screw things up, we might even see season 3 end with a season 1-like cliffhanger. That would be a great way to bring viewers back for season 4 (keeping fingers crossed).

The season one cliffhanger just about killed me! THAT WAS ONE LONG SUMMER!! But we thrive on the tension, or we wouldn’t watch the show, right? I love the Boys, and will watch till the end of it all. I’d love a ,Dean stuck at the crossroads with a tear in his eye ……standing on the edge of the abyss cliffhanger! It so could go ANY way that I can’t wait. Love your site!!!

The season 1 cliffhanger blew me away too. I so wasn’t expecting it. It drove me to read spoilers for the 1st time ever. I’m hoping for a similarly dramatic and completely unexpected ending for season 3…Dean standing in the crossroads, a tear in his eye…when a semi comes barreling through the intersection… sorry, I couldn’t resist. :-)

Hillarious!!!!!! Still laughing!! Then Sam jumps ,pushes him out of way…..saves his life….again….. 2 for 2? Almost losing count of death paybacks!Ha! As long as they come back for season 4, I’ll take whatever Kripke can dish out!!

Me too…and I’ll enjoy Kripke’s meal no matter how many unwanted guests are at the table. Nice Dean save, btw. I got nothing for a comeback. I suck at anything like RPGs.

Me too. But the BOYZ sure bring out your imagination,Kripke and Sera TOO. Your detail and obsessions to this show are what keep me going! REwatching season one this weekend….awwww the good old days…music..action..brotherly talks, then punches. Can hardly wait for xmas supernatural!! They’ve never done one, can’t imagine what’ll be like!!It will Suck if it’s last one because of strike!! Fingers crossed, toes too and looking for a good HOODOO potion to keep it going!!HAHA

I’m looking forward to the xmas episode myself. It looks like fun. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment about wanting SPN to keep going. But I’d be careful about dipping into the black arts to make it happen… you never know who might come hunting you. :-)

Only kidding…no black arts for me. How many new episodes after xmas one, if they’re shutting down this week? Any news if canceled? I don’t want to make up my own ending for the series and don’t want to get wrapped up in something else….Come on people give the writers thier money!!!!!!! THEY DESERVE IT!!!!

Knew u were kidding. Bad joke, sorry. Xmas episode is #8, they just finished filming #12, so only 4 more new episodes starting in January. Negotiations broke down Fri 12/7/07. Strong possibility that 12 episodes will be total for season 3. :-( I just hope that in the confusion over the strike, the network won’t get around canceling any shows, especially not SPN.
