Praises: Like season two, episode #9 of season three is an episode focused heavily on Supernatural’s mythology. Sam changing personality, Dean’s impending demise and descent to hell, and the demon war were all touched upon. Plus new twists were thrown into the mythology to keep us fans guessing. The story was fast paced and at some points, heart pounding. I found myself drawn into it several times. Two things really stood out for me. One was that Sam felt strongly enough to forcibly stop his brother from shooting Ruby, a demon, yet was willing to kill humans because they practiced witchcraft…not a good sign about where Sam’s changing persona is going. The second was the badass witchcraft demon. She was the most powerful demon we’ve seen in season three so far. And she hid her viciously evil persona under a sweet, innocent facade called Tammy. Much like Meg did in season one. The pretty, petite actress did a great job of convincing me that she was an evil bitch demon. Tammy is an adversary I would like to see the Winchesters come up against again, but alas, Dean filleted her. Other notable aspects of the show was Sam’s frantic anxiety when Dean began coughing up blood…it was almost palpable, and, the demon stopping the bullet in mid air was an awesome special effect. I love it every time a Winchester fires the colt and effect is slo-moed to where we see the bullet actually traveling to it’s target. This time it didn’t make it all the way, but that made it even more startling.

Nags: Kripke…What the hell???? Where are u taking this show’s mythology? Demons were once people? No Way!!!! If your goal was to shock fans, you certainly succeeded with me. People don’t have the ability to levitate, stop bullets or bring people back to life…how in heaven’s name are they supposed to get this ability once in hell. Ruby better be lying through her teeth, playing on Dean’s fears in typical demon fashion and manipulating him in her goal to turn Sam evil. Also, this is the second time that you’ve tried to make a demon sympathetic on the show, in this case, Ruby…and I’m not buying into it! I wish you’d just stop that because it ain’t gonna work…not with most of Supernatural’s audience and certainly not with the portion of fans, like myself, who grew up Catholic. Katie Cassidy got a lot of screen time in her role as Ruby, but she failed to impress. Her only good scene was when she and Dean were shouting at each other, otherwise she was just plain bad. The mythology in this episode was a lot more interesting than the story itself. I am rating it “very good” because it mattered enough to me to get worked up.

my fave….one liners!!!! Shortbus…after choking on blood. Stop calling me bitch… but the show, still hanging. Maybe so Dean won’t fight to keep his soul, Ruby gave him long speech of once a human now a demon??!!Little Sammy turning into the man Dean is.Plausable. I don’t know but it kept me HEATED UP on a cold, snowy night. And next week Dean with demon eyes…dreaming of reality? How do the”HUMAN” bodies they posess, disappear into thin air ,fix when injured and keep body alive?? Am I just thinking too much or are they really becoming the comic book version now? How do you relate to that? I don’t know, but I felt some old feeling come back for the boys, not giving up just yet.

Felt some of the old Winchester magic, too. In SPN mythology, demon-human have superhuman ability, including ability to vanish…YED did in “Salvation”. Makes more sense if demons like fallen angels. If demons once human, then angels once human too…not true.
Realize something important missing from epi…Sam not tell Dean secret about blood/YED+Mom. Previous seasons epi#9 had big secrets revealed. Are girls messing up flow of show??!! And why no Sam angst about secret? Should be torn up about it, like when psychic. Sign of not Sam?? Could blood make him evil if become like Dean?? Excited by possibilities. Worried for Sam. Worried for Dean.

Alot of lines thrown out in the water, but no angst, hand wringing “what am I gonna do?” and you’ll be gone…few months left. Weird, matter of factly…..said every epi instead of….JERK…….B*$#ch retoric. You’ve got me really thinking now. The other secret we all wanted to know, dieing to know. Mixed blood and YED knowing mom all “wrapped up” in one epi with Ruby. And hardly any Bobby. Hoped he would “try” to fill PaPa W hole. Looking forward to Feb. 7 epi. Maybe some answers. I totally think too many new characters and stories to go /w. We just need the BOYS,that’s what hooked us to begin with.

You are right. Sam too matter of fact. Possibly holding it all in. Could fall apart when Dean time approaches. Don’t see hints of this though. Love Bobby, but more like uncle figure…doesn’t trigger emotions like John did. Looking forward to tonights epi. 1st time Dean with black eyes…only dream though.

You know I’m a little behind on this one, but the writer of this review asked the question “Kripke, Where are you going with this?” and started in about the powers of demons being different then humans, etc., wondering in what universe does kripke think a human and demon are related, but I have to say that in various sects of judeo-christian religions, this is a common idea. Angels, demons, and humans are all relative spirits, meaning that an Angels became demon in a war in heaven in the ancient past and that humans once gone to hell become demons. Not a hard leap if you can imagine that a person can become an angel if they lead righteous lives.
I guess the moral is, why ask Kripke what he’s thinking when he’s just following fairly average beliefs on heaven and hell?

College boy..thinks he so smart! Well my heero, I never heard of human becoming demon before, despite years in catholic school. Humans not become angels either…become saints. Saint and angel not the same, though often erroneously used interchangeably. Know angel can become demon. Happened to Lucifer. SPN’s implication all humans in hell become demons shocking…thus rant to Kripke. But I defer to your superior knowledge.

Well, according to the comparative religions chart that I have in my possession, which was done by the Institute of Comparative Religions, Angels are listed in many cases as the hosts of spirits who do the bidding of God.
Spirits are then what if not the souls of innocent and/or perfect people.
That being said, I have some examples for you to look into. I believe you’ll find deep amounts of information in Cabalist texts. Adam was and returned to being the archangel Michael, and Noah became and forever would be Gabriel.
Good luck on that research….or you could just believe me.
